WASHINGTON, Pa. (March 19) – Behind 22 runs on 25 hits, the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team posted a doubleheader sweep over Wheeling Jesuit at Wild Things Park on Tuesday afternoon, registering a 14-0 victory in Game 1 before securing an 8-1 win in Game 2.

With the victories, the Vulcans improve to 12-3 overall behind a 7-1 record at home. Meanwhile, the Cardinals drop their fifth-straight contest to fall to 2-14 this season and hold a 0-4 mark versus Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams.

In Game 1, freshman Tyler Bedillion (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) tossed a 7.0-inning, complete-game shutout against Wheeling Jesuit to earn his first collegiate win. He yielded zero runs on five hits with a season-high seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings (87 pitches). Bedillion holds a 0.00 ERA over 15.0 innings pitched in four appearances this season.

After two scoreless innings, Cal U halted the drought with nine runs on six hits after batting around the lineup in the bottom of the third. Sophomore third baseman Louden Conte (California, Pa./California) then drew a bases-loaded walk to take a 1-0 advantage before the Vulcans took a 3-0 lead on a two-run single to right-center from senior designated hitter Thomas Chisam (Willamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy). With runners on the corners, senior first baseman Eric Fairman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) recorded an RBI single before sophomore left fielder Bill Hitman (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) drew a walk to reload the bases. Senior catcher Kristian Webb (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair) then collected an RBI on a fielder's choice before Fairman stole home on a delayed double-steal, as Webb took second base. Later in the inning with two outs and the base loaded, Marchetti laced a double down the right-field line to clear the bases and stretch the lead to 9-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cal U extended the lead to 10-0 on an RBI double from Hitman before tallying three more runs in the fifth frame. Brogan reached base on a triple to right-center before Maudie also recorded a triple to take an 11-0 advantage. Marchetti followed with a RBI triple down the left-field line. With one out, Hitman notched a sacrifice fly to center field to go ahead 13-0. The Vulcans added to the lead in the sixth inning on a solo homer to left field from Maudie, his team-leading fifth of the season, to hold a 14-0 advantage.
