CALIFORNIA (Jan. 21) – Despite freshman
Zyan Collins (South Riding, Va./Freedom) matching a career high with 23 points on Monday afternoon, the Vulcans fell by a 72-70 margin versus Seton Hill at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team drops to 6-10 this season behind a 4-6 mark in league action. The Vulcans will play three games over the next eight days, including consecutive divisional contests at home. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 4-12 overall with a 2-8 record in conference action.
Collins scored 23 points on 8-of-18 attempts, including four-of-nine from beyond the arc against the Griffins. He added five rebounds, five assists and two blocks while playing 39 minutes. Collins ranks second the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game and has tallied back-to-back 20-point games at home.

Cal U opened the contest on a 10-3 run over the initial three minutes of the game, led by Williams with five points. Seton Hill halted the rally with a jumper before Collins answered with a three-pointer to take a 13-5 advantage at the 16:29-mark. After both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes, Pegram ended the drought with a three-pointer before Cal U extended the lead to 22-11 with 11:11 remaining in the first half. Both teams exchanged the next four baskets until the Griffins mounted a 14-2 rally over the next four minutes to take a 31-29 lead to claim their first lead of the contest. The Vulcans quickly regained the advantage on a three-pointer from Collins before Seton Hill scored seven-straight points to hold a 38-32 lead with 30 seconds left. Pegram tallied four points in the final seconds of the first half, as Cal U trailed 38-36 at halftime.
In the second half, Collins totaled eight-unanswered points, including a pair of three-pointers, to give the Vulcans a 44-38 lead at the 17:57-mark. The Griffins posted an 11-2 rally to reclaim the lead after making three-of-six shots to take a 49-46 advantage. During the run, Cal U made only one field goal over the nearly four-minute stretch. Seton Hill held a three-point lead while the game featured little separation over the next four-plus minutes. The Vulcans tied at the game at 62-62 with 5:53 left after six-consecutive points before the contest would be tied three more times over a three-minute span. The Griffins would take the advantage on a layup with under a minute remaining before MacAdams countered with a bucket to tie the game at 70-70 with 37 seconds left. Following a foul, Seton Hill made a pair of free-throws before Cal U missed two shots from the charity stripe with just three seconds remaining to fall 72-70 against the Griffins.
Cal U finished the game with a .421 field-goal percentage (24-of-57) and made 14-of-20 (70.0 percent) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Seton Hill shot 45.0 (27-of-60) from the floor while converting 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the charity stripe. The Griffins held a slight 37-35 edge in rebounding and scored 19 second-chance points, while the Vulcans posted 14 points off turnovers.
Senior Trevor Blondin scored 23 points on 7-of-14 attempts and added five rebounds and three assists in 40 minutes of action. Junior Nathan Davis tallied 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals in 35 minutes, while freshman Malik McKinney notched 16 points, three rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes.
Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when it travels to face No. 4 IUP in PSAC West action with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
