CALIFORNIA (Dec. 18) – Redshirt senior
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) recorded her fourth 30-point game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as the No. 13 Vulcans claimed an 80-74 victory against Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play at the Convocation Center.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 9-0 overall with a 3-0 mark in league action. Meanwhile, the Huskies, which were playing their fourth nationally-ranked opponent this season, fall to 7-4 this year behind a 3-1 record in conference play.
Barrett scored 30 points on Tuesday after shooting 13-of-22 from the field against Bloomsburg. She also tallied five rebounds, two assists and three steals while playing 36 minutes. Barrett also moved into ninth place all-time in school history with 1,515 points on Tuesday, surpassing both Megan Storck (2003-06) and former teammate
Shatara Parsons (2014-18).

Gina Vallecorsa (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) posted 13 points behind three-of-nine from beyond the arc and added three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sophomore

Abbey Sporio (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) led the team with six rebounds (four offensive).
The teams combined for six ties in the first quarter, as neither team was able to hold a lead larger than three points. Barrett scored eight-straight points for the Vulcans, as Cal U took a 17-14 lead with 2:34 left in the first quarter. Both teams were held scoreless for nearly two minutes before the Huskies scored four-straight points to take an 18-17 lead at the end of the quarter. Jiahna Flood-Francis (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Mifflin) converted a three-point play with 8:41 left before halftime. Barrett then scored another eight-consecutive points for Cal U to give the Vulcans a 28-26 lead at the 4:31-mark. Bloomsburg eventually cut the deficit to 35-34 with 1:54 left before Cal U scored the last five points of the quarter to take a 40-34 lead at halftime.
Barrett made the initial basket of the third quarter to give the Vulcans a 42-34 lead before the Huskies countered by trimming the deficit to 46-42 at the 7:16-mark. Cal U then mounted a 12-3 run behind back-to-back three-pointers to build a 60-47 lead with 3:22 left in the third quarter. The Huskies answered with eight-unanswered points to cut the deficit to 60-55 with 42 seconds remaining before each team made a basket in the final 15 seconds. Cal U stretched the lead back to double-digits early in the fourth quarter before Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 68-65 with 6:06 left to play.
With Barrett on the bench due to foul trouble, the Vulcans collected three offensive rebounds on a single possession before freshman
Brionna Allen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) converted a three-point play to give Cal U a 73-67 lead with 2:44 remaining. Bloomsburg answered with a jumper before being held scoreless for over two minutes, as Cal U stretched the lead to 77-69 following a fastbreak layup by Sporio and a pair of free-throws by Allen. The Huskies snapped their scoreless drought with a three-point play before the Vulcans sealed the victory by making three-of-four from the charity stripe in the closing seconds.
Cal U set a season high with a .500 field-goal percentage (31-of-62) and also converted 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg shot at a 54.0 clip (27-of-50) from the floor and made an impressive 85.7 percent (18-of-21) from the charity stripe. The Vulcans finished with a 30-25 rebounding advantage behind 12 offensive rebounds and scored 37 points in the paint.
Bloomsburg junior Bella Ricci scored a team-high 17 points in the losing effort and added four rebounds and four assists. Classmate Taylor Montana scored 16 points on seven-of-nine shooting and sophomore Emma Saxton tallied 13 points and paced all players with eight rebounds.
The Vulcans close out the 2018 portion of their schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 19, when they host East Stroudsburg at 5:30 p.m.
