SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. (Nov. 14) – Junior
Gina Vallecorsa (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) scored a career-high 30 points after going a perfect eight-for-eight from three-point territory, as the Vulcans earned a 78-60 victory at Shepherd in non-conference play on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 3-0 overall with all three games against Mountain East Conference (MEC) schools. Meanwhile, the Rams fall to 2-1 this season after playing all three games at home.
Vallecorsa finished with 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor and added four rebounds and three assists while playing all 40 minutes. The eight three-pointers by Vallecorsa mark the most by a Cal U player in a game in over a decade. Last year only one player in the PSAC made at least eight treys in a game. Vallecorsa is the first player in NCAA Division II to shoot 100.0 percent from beyond the arc while attempting at least eight three-pointers since Cal Poly Pomona guard JJ Judge went eight-for-eight in December 2012.
