GLENVILLE, W.Va. (Nov. 12) – Junior transfer
Jahmere Howze (Cleveland, Ohio/Warrensville Heights) registered a double-double with a staggering 44 points and 20 rebounds, as the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team earned a 105-94 victory on Sunday evening against host Glenville State in the final game of Jakobi's Journey Basketball Classic.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 2-0 on the season while defeating a pair of Mountain East Conference (MEC) opponents. Meanwhile, the Pioneers drop to 0-2 overall under ninth-year head coach Stephen Dye.
Howze finished with 44 points after shooting 15-of-23 from the floor and added 20 rebounds (11 offensive) and two steals. He scored more points on Sunday than any player in over two decades, while the 20 rebounds are the highest total in at least a decade. The single-game school record for scoring is held by Ray Greene with 51 points during the 1970-71 season against Lock Haven.

Terry Davis, Jr. (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) recorded 19 points on 7-of-13 from the field and totaled eight rebounds and seven assists in a team-high 36 minutes. Senior
Isaiah Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ of King) posted 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and a team-high three steals against the Pioneers.

Cordell Smith (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) totaled 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 35 minutes. Dating back to last season, he is averaging 12.2 points while shooting 46.7 percent (43-of-92) from the field over his previous nine games.
The Vulcans opened the game with a 7-0 run, highlighted by an early three-pointer from Smith. Glenville State countered with a 12-5 rally to tie the game after going five-of-seven from the floor, including two-of-three from beyond the arc. The Vulcans would score seven-unanswered to regain the lead at 19-12 on a layup by Davis with 15:15 left in the first half. The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to 28-24 after shooting five-of-eight from the field over a five-minute stretch. Cal U mounted a 9-1 run to take its largest lead of the first half at 41-29 following five points from Howze. Glenville State rallied again to cut the deficit to 44-36 before Cal U extended its lead with a pair of layups to head into the break with a 48-38 lead.
Cal U stretched its lead to as many as 17 points, 64-47, forcing four Glenville turnovers and converting 7-of-11 from the field in the initial five minutes of the second half. The Pioneers used a 9-3 rally to cut into the lead before Howze scored seven-straight points for the Vulcans to extend their lead to 74-58. Cal U held a comfortable lead until Glenville State responded with a 14-2 run to work the deficit to 91-86 with 6:40 left in the second half. The Vulcans countered by shooting three-of-three from the floor and converting seven-of-eight from the line to earn a 105-94 victory.
The Vulcans finished the game shooting 48.1 percent (38-of-79) from the floor while converting 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) from free-throw line in the contest. Meanwhile, the Pioneers made 50.7 percent (36-of-71) from the field, including 11-of-31 (35.5 percent) from beyond the arc. Cal U held a 45-41 rebounding advantage that led to 26 second-chance points while holding the lead the entire game.
Sophomore Darhius Dunn finished with 32 points, four rebounds and five assists in the losing effort while playing 38 minutes. Senior Jon Dunmyer posted 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists and teammate Dwayne Chestnut, Jr. tallied 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Cal U return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 15, when it begins a four-game homestand against Ashland at 7 p.m.
