LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 28) – The Vulcans concluded their season with a 1-0 loss following a late second-half goal on Saturday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team dropped to 3-12-2 overall with a 3-11-2 record in league play. The Vulcans fail to qualify for the PSAC Tournament for the third-consecutive year after making six-straight appearances from 2009-14. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles move to 6-11 this season behind a 5-11-mark in conference action.
Lock Haven opened the match with consecutive shots wide of the net before Cal U registered three-straight corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Senior
Kira Carberry (Odenton, Md./Arundel) recorded the first shot on goal for the Vulcans which was saved by the keeper. The Bald Eagles notched four shots in a nine-minute span, which resulted in three saves by senior goalkeeper
Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg). The match remained scoreless heading into the break with the Bald Eagles holding an 8-2 shot advantage, while Cal U held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
In the 61st minute, Lock Haven broke the tie with a goal by Haleigh Swam which was fired over the Vulcan goalie. Cal U attempted to level the match in the closing minutes with a shot by freshman
Anna Billey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) that was saved before junior
Danielle Koehler (Coal Center, Pa./California) sent a header high over the goal. In the final five minutes, freshman
Kiley Austin (Orchard Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) delivered a corner kick into the box before the Bald Eagles cleared the attack.
Colon finished the contest with five saves on Saturday while playing all 90 minutes.
Lock Haven out-shot Cal U by a 14-4 margin while the Vulcans finished with an 8-4 edge in corner kicks with four in each half.
