Women's Basketball tops Seton Hill, 76-46

Glenn breaks all-time school record for free-throws made, ranks seventh in league history

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 13) – Sophomore forwards Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) and Shatara Parsons (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) combined for over 40 points and 20 rebounds, as the Vulcans extended their winning streak to seven games with a 76-46 victory at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 18-5 overall and 15-4 in league play. Meanwhile, Seton Hill drops to 13-12 this season behind a 9-10 mark in conference action.

Parsons scored a game-high 23 points on 11-of-18 shooting and also led all players with 13 rebounds (nine offensive). She added two assists, two blocks and three steals while playing 29 minutes against the Griffins. Parsons is averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds over the last six games behind four double-doubles.

Barrett finished with 20 points on 7-of-12 from the floor and six-of-eight from the free-throw line. She also tallied 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals while playing 38 minutes. Barrett has now recorded 12 double-doubles this year, which is the most by a player since former All-American Kayla Smith averaged a double-double during the 2010-11 season.

Junior guard Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) collected 10 points, three rebounds, six assists and six steals while playing all 40 minutes on Saturday. Glenn also broke the all-time school record and moved into seventh place in league history with 478 free-throws made, eclipsing the previous school mark of 477 held by Smith.

Fellow junior Precious Martin (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) totaled six points, six rebounds and four steals, while senior Paige Wright (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) finished with eight points and four rebounds.

Cal U started the game on a 14-2 run after forcing five turnovers and limiting Seton Hill to one-of-six shooting in the opening five-plus minutes. After a three-pointer by the Griffins, the Vulcans scored eight of the next 10 points to stretch the lead to 22-7 on a pair of free-throw by Glenn with 18 seconds left in the quarter.

The Griffins worked the deficit down to 26-15 at the 5:17-mark in the second quarter before the Vulcans answered with nine-unanswered points to take a 35-15 lead on a layup by Parsons with 2:51 left before halftime. Seton Hill then countered with six-straight points to the cut the deficit to 35-21 at the break.

Midway through the third quarter, Cal U went on a 9-2 run over three minutes to take a 51-27 lead on a pair of free-throws by Barrett with 4:24 left in the quarter. The Griffins trimmed the deficit to 55-34 in the closing minute of the quarter before the Vulcans rallied off six-straight points to take a 61-34 lead with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter.

The Griffins then made four-straight shots over a span of 3:36 before the Vulcans countered with nine-consecutive points, including seven by freshman Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College), to take their largest lead of the game at 73-43 with 1:59 left to play.

Cal U finished the game shooting 44.9 percent (31-of-69) from the floor despite going 4-of-16 (25.0 percent) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Seton Hill shot at a 43.2 clip (19-of-44) from the field and attempted only eight free-throws. The Vulcans held a significant 40-28 rebounding advantage behind 18 offensive rebounds that led to 14 second-chance points. Cal U also forced 25 turnovers and scored 36 points off turnovers in the victory.

Sophomore Jenna Kaufman was the lone Griffin to score in double-digits, finishing with team highs of 13 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Kinross Obiefule posted eight points and four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

The Vulcans continue their road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 17, when they travel to face Gannon at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 5:30 p.m.
