CALIFORNIA (Oct. 19) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team scored five second-half goals on Wednesday evening in a 6-1 victory on Senior Day against Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 8-5-1 overall behind a 4-4-1 mark in league play. Cal U finishes the season with a 4-2-1 record in home games. Meanwhile, the Mountain Cats fall to 4-10 this season and 1-8 in conference action.
Cal U scored the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute when freshman
Cooper Amos (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) notched his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a through ball from senior
Nick Cichon (Monogahela, Pa./Ringgold). The best scoring opportunity for UPJ in the first half came in the 26th minute when it put a shot wide left of the net. Cal U out-shot Pitt-Johnstown 12-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
The Vulcans extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second half when Cichon ripped a shot from outside the 18 yard box on a cross from senior
Cory Kuzilla (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek). Cichon added another goal at the 62:10-mark on a beautiful ball played from senior
Elliot Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley). The Mountain Cats answered nearly 30 seconds later when Erik Etter scored on a cross from the left side of the field. Sophomore
Anthony Papageorgiou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bethlehem Catholic Pa.) stretched the lead to 4-1 in the 69th minute on a through ball from freshman
Matt Light (Cleona, Pa./Annville Cleona). The Vulcans increased the lead to 5-1 at the 73:45-mark when the ball was deflected off a Mountain Cat defender into the net for an 'own goal.' Sophomore
Eric Campbell (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) added an insurance goal, his fourth of the year, in the 81st minute on a header from Papageorgiou following a corner kick.

Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) recorded two saves while playing all 90 minutes to earn his seventh win of the year. Meanwhile, UPJ goalkeeper Nate Kleya made six saves in the losing effort.
The Vulcans out-shot the Mountain Cats by a 19-9 margin and finished with an 8-1 edge in corner kicks with six coming in the second half.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when it travels to face Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
