CALIFORNIA (Nov. 29) – Behind a career-high 25 points by sophomore
Luka Andjusic (Belgrade, Serbia/Borislav Petrov Braca) and a pair of double-doubles, the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team claimed a 98-88 non-conference victory over Penn State-Fayette on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 2-4 this season with both victories coming at home. Meanwhile, the Roaring Lions fall to 2-5 this year.
Andjusic led all players with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. He also added four rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win. Andjusic, who entered play with 11 three-pointers through five games, is the first player to make at least six three-pointers in a game since February 2014.

Richard Smith (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) finished with 14 points on six-of-seven from the floor and 10 rebounds (five offensive), while sophomore
Daniel Sapp (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) added 12 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) off the bench. Fellow sophomore
Tony Richardson (Sterling, Va./Dominion) posted 12 points and five rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench and senior
Khalil Jabbie (Alexandria, Va./Edison) tallied 11 points and four assists.
The Vulcans scored the initial basket of the game before the Roaring Lions answered with seven-straight points to take a 7-2 lead in the opening two minutes of the game. Cal U answered with a 10-3 run over nearly three minutes to take a 12-10 lead at the 16:00-mark before later scoring 10-unanswered points stretch the lead to 27-16 with 11:46 left in the first half. Midway through the first half, the Vulcans mounted a 12-2 rally to build a 48-29 lead on a dunk by Smith with 6:02 remaining. Cal U was held without a field goal over the final four minutes of the first half before taking a 55-41 lead at the break.
The teams traded points for the opening seven minutes of the second half before Cal U engineered a 14-4 run to take an 83-60 lead with 9:22 remaining. The Roaring Lions worked the deficit down to 12 points, 90-78, at the 3:52-mark before the Vulcans made three free-throws with two-plus minutes left to play. Penn State-Fayette answered with a 10-3 run to trim the deficit to single digits at 96-88 with 1:12 remaining.
The Vulcans shot over 50 percent in the first half and finished the game shooting at a .478 clips (32-of-67) with a season-high 10 three-pointers. Meanwhile the Roaring Lions made 42.9 percent (30-of-70) from floor and also made 10 treys. Cal U finished with a sizeable 53-29 rebounding advantage behind 22 offensive rebounds that were converted into 25 second-chance points.
Senior Luke Williams led the Roaring Lions with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including four-of-eight from long range. Junior Dominick Jackson finished with 21 points while playing 24 minutes in the losing effort.
Cal U returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when it hosts Clarion at 7:30 p.m.
