GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 4) – Senior
Terrell Roberson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) rushed for three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, on Saturday afternoon, as the Vulcans posted a 31-21 win at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania football team improves to 4-1 overall with a 3-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Seton Hill falls to 1-4 this season behind a 1-3 record in conference action. The Vulcans have now won each of the three all-time meetings against the Griffins, who joined the PSAC last season.
Sophomore
Nick Grissom (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and Roberson combined to rush for 161 yards on 34 attempts on Saturday. Grissom finished with a game-high 94 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Roberson added 67 yards on 14 attempts with three scores. Roberson, who was a former starting defensive back, has totaled a combined eight rushing touchdowns over the last three weeks.
Midway through the first quarter, the Griffins forced and recovered a fumble deep in their territory on a sack of junior quarterback
James Harris (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah). Seton Hill converted the turnover into points with a 20-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 5:32 left in the quarter. On the ensuing possession, the Vulcans capped a 40-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run by Roberson, who setup the drive with a 50-yard kickoff return. Cal U lost another fumble on its next possession near midfield before forcing Seton Hill to punt after losing seven yards on its drive.
The Vulcans took a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter when Harris connected with junior wide receiver
Kowan Scott (Easton, Pa./Wilson) for a 26-yard touchdown on third down with 12:07 left before halftime. Midway through the quarter, senior linebacker
Branko Busick (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville) recovered a fumble deep in Seton Hill territory; however, a penalty and sack forced Cal U out of field-goal range. The Vulcans managed to add to their lead on the next possession when senior kicker
Cody Nuzzo (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) made a 21-yard field goal with 1:09 left before halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Cal U lost its third fumble of the game when Harris was sacked near midfield. The Griffins converted the turnover into a 1-yard touchdown run that trimmed the deficit to 17-14 with 5:24 remaining in the quarter. Cal U maintained the lead throughout the quarter after forcing a turnover on downs from just outside the red zone on the next Seton Hill possession.
The Griffins looked to tie the game early in the fourth quarter on a 36-yard field goal that was blocked by Scott, who stands at 6-foot-4. Midway through the quarter, the Vulcans overcame back-to-back holding penalties to start a drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by Roberson with 5:30 remaining. Derrick Fiore (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) and set-up the touchdown with a 28-yard pass from Harris to Scott on fourth down. The Vulcans then forced a turnover on downs deep inside the Griffins territory before taking a 31-14 lead on a 20-yard touchdown run by Roberson with 2:52 left to play. Seton Hill countered with a 75-yard touchdown drive with 40 seconds remaining before Cal U recovered the on-side kick attempt.

Arnel Farmer, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa/Central Catholic) and senior linebacker
Jeff Knox, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./DeMatha Catholic (Md.)) both led the team with eight tackles with Knox adding 1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack and one forced fumble. Senior linebacker
Spencer Lynn (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) and junior defensive lineman
Kenny Wilkins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) each collected seven stops in the victory.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when it hosts nationally-ranked Slippery Rock on Homecoming with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
