Baseball earns berth to NCAA Tournament

Vulcans will face Seton Hill in first round of Atlantic Regional hosted by Millersville from May 15-17

INDIANAPOLIS (May 11) – The California (PA) baseball team earned the fourth seed as an at-large selection in the upcoming Atlantic Regional of the NCAA Tournament late Sunday night.

The Vulcans (38-13) will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010, and sixth overall in program history. Cal will face fifth-seeded Seton Hill (37-15) in the opening round on Thursday, May 15, at Cooper Park in Millersville, Pennsylvania. The Vulcans, Griffins and top-seeded Marauders (42-8) will play in a double-elimination regional tournament from May 15-17 with the winner advancing to the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional from May 22-24.

Cal strengthened its candidacy for an at-large selection last week at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament, which was also held at Cooper Park. The Vulcans advanced to the PSAC Championship for the first time since 2010 and posted a 4-2 record in the tournament while playing four games against nationally-ranked opponents, including three versus the host Marauders.

In the other half of the bracket in the Atlantic Region, West Chester (35-15) earned hosting rights as the second seed despite being eliminated by Cal on the opening day of the PSAC Tournament. East Stroudsburg (35-14) received the third seed and will open play versus Fairmont State (26-26), which earned the automatic qualifier from the Mountain East Conference due to league-champion Point Park being ineligible for the NCAA post-season following its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II.

The Vulcans will begin play in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, May 15, versus the Griffins at 11 a.m. The losing team will then face the host Marauders at 2 p.m.
