Campbell, Kush make NFL active rosters

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 1) – A pair of former California University of Pennsylvania football players – defensive back Tommie Campbell (Tennessee Titans) and offensive lineman Eric Kush (Kansas City Chiefs) – recently made the 53-man active roster of their respective NFL teams.

A seventh-round draft pick in 2011, Campbell (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) appeared in all four preseason games this summer with the Titans. He made two starts at cornerback during the preseason and collected 12 tackles (10 solo) in four games. Campbell has appeared in 29 games over the last two seasons and returned a pair of kicks for touchdowns, an 84-yard kickoff return (Nov. 27, 2011) and 65-yard punt return (Sept. 23, 2012).

Kush (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) played in all four preseason games for the Chiefs after being selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, becoming the highest Cal U player ever selected in the NFL Draft (by round). He started the final game of the preseason and was one of 10 rookies to make the Kansas City active roster.

In addition to Campbell and Kush, the Vulcans featured five players at various NFL training camps this summer. Defense back Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) played in three preseason games for the Atlanta Falcons after appearing in a combined 12 games over the previous two years. Wide receiver Dominique Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington) played in a pair of preseason games with the Carolina Panthers this summer after appearing in 18 career games, primarily on special teams, from 2010-11.

Defensive back James Nixon (New Haven, Conn./Hyde Leadership) appeared in two games with the Green Bay Packers this summer after being on their practice squad last season. Offensive lineman Rishaw Johnson (Hammond, La./Hammond) played in all four preseason games with the Seattle Seahawks following a year on their practice squad.

As a rookie, defensive back Rontez Miles (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) played in four games for the New York Jets this preseason and was recently signed to their practice squad.
