Clark earns All-America honors in 5K

SAN ANGELO, Texas (May 23) – For the second time at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, California University of Pennsylvania graduate student Christopher Clark (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) earned All-America honors.

Clark finished eighth overall in the finals of the 5,000-meter run on Saturday with a time of 14 minutes, 32.45 seconds. He qualified for the finals by posting a time of 14:37.52 in the preliminaries on Friday, ranking 12th among 17 runners. Clark, a five-time All-American, previously earned All-America laurels in the 10,000-meter run at this year's NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Daniel Kirwa of Harding University (Ark.) won the finals of the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:17.45. Kirwa also earned the 10K individual title for a second-straight year.

Freshman Ryan Schleicher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished 13th overall in the javelin throw on Saturday with a distance of 59.57 meters (195-05 feet). After committing a foul on his first attempt, he posted a heave of 55.67 meters before throwing 59.67 meters on his third and final attempt. Schleicher finished second among the three freshmen competing at the event.

Sophomore Felipe Ortiz of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez won the javelin title on his first throw of 68.94 meters (226-02 feet).
