LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (May 2) – Graduate student
Chuck Kacsur III (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Carlisle) and junior
Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday, as the California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team competed at the Lock Haven University Qualifier.
Kacsur won the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 52.51 seconds to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA National Championships. His time also is the best time posted by any Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) runner this season.
Ehrensberger finished the 400-meter dash first overall after crossing the finish line in 47.11 seconds. His time is the best performance by any runner in the PSAC this year and provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championships.
The Vulcans featured three of the top-five runners in the 800 meters. Sophomore
Rickie Watson (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) finished second overall behind only Kacsur after posting a time of 1:55.83. Junior
Andrew Amey (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) qualified for next week's PSAC Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.13.
Junior sprinters
Dennis Cole (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) posted back-to-back, top-five finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In the finals of the 100 meters, Cole finished second with a time of 10.83 seconds followed closely by Johnson in 10.89 seconds. In the 200 meters, Cole won his heat and placed third overall in 22.46 seconds and Johnson finished fourth overall in 22.52 seconds.
The Cal U relay teams both finished in second place at the weekend event.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Cole, Johnson, Ehrensberger and freshman
Vince Wilson (Bear, Del./Middletown) posted a time of 42.53 seconds, only five-tenths of a second behind the winning time.
The 4x400-meter relay featured freshman
Mike Donovan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), senior
Tony Morinello (Plum, Pa./Plum), Watson and sophomore
Nick Messina (Cheswick, Pa./Springdale) crossed the finish line in 3:28.22 to finish in second place.
Freshman
Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) crossed the finish line third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:28.11.
The Vulcans return to action at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, beginning Thursday, May 7. The three-day event is being hosted by Millersville University.
