CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (April 11) – The 4x100-meter relay team was one of five top-10 finishes for the California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team on Saturday at the UNC Joe Hilton Invitational.
The Vulcans' 4x100 relay finished second with a time of 42.91 seconds, edging past Duke by one tenth of second. Cal U also posted a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 20.88 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, the Vulcans posted better times than both N.C. State and Syracuse.
Junior
Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) finished second overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.69 seconds. He finished only 0.58 tenths of a second behind Mike Smoot of Michigan State.
Fellow junior
Nate Payne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) set a season best in the long jump with a mark of 6.77 meters (22-02.50 feet) and finished fourth overall in the event.
Junior sprinter
Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.10 seconds. He also posted a time of 22.33 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Senior
Tony Morinello (Plum, Pa./Plum) crossed the finish line in 58.02 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, while sophomore
Kyle Spaniol (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) posted a heave of 31.99 meters (104-11 feet) in the hammer throw.
Graduate student
Chuck Kacsur III (Boiling Springs, Pa./Carlisle) finished the 800-meter run in 1:54.11, while junior
Dennis Cole (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished the 100 meters in 11.84 seconds.
Cal U resumes competition at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Multi-Event and Ed Fry Invitational, beginning Thursday, April 16.
