Team Standings
CALIFORNIA (March 28) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team opened its outdoor season with a fifth-place finish at the 14-team Western Pennsylvania Championships, hosted by the Vulcans at Adamson Stadium.
The Vulcans claimed a pair of first-place finishes, along with a trio of second-place finishes at the home meet, which featured NCAA Division I, II and III programs.
Junior
Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) registered the top time in the 400-meter dash and served as the opening leg of both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams. He won the 400 meters with a time of 48.30 seconds, which is the top time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) outdoor season. Individually, Ehrensberger also placed eighth in the finals of the 100-meter dash after finishing third in the preliminaries with a time of 11.28 seconds.

Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) and senior
Tony Morinello (Plum, Pa./Plum) won the event with a time of 3 minutes, 23.61 seconds. Cal U entered the race as the second seed behind Seton Hill University before topping the Griffins' relay team by 2.28 seconds.
Ehrensberger, Johnson and Myers were also members of the 4x100-meter relay team. Joined by junior
Dennis Cole (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan), the relay team finished second in 42.06 seconds, only 25 tenths of a second behind the winning time.
Freshman
Ryan Schleicher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) reached a provisional NCAA qualifying mark in the javelin throw with a heave of 59.48 meters (195-02 feet) to finish in second place.
Junior
Nate Payne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) also placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 6.66 meters (21-10.25 feet).
In addition to his effort on the relay teams, Johnson placed third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In the finals of the 100 meters, he crossed the finish line in 11.35 seconds after qualifying with a time of 11.34 seconds. Also an All-American football player, Johnson finished with a time of 22.79 seconds in the 200 meters.
Robert Morris University finished first in the first division standings with 171 points with Indiana University of Pennsylvania (151) and Seton Hill (138) finishing second and third, respectively.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, April 4, when they host the PSAC West Challenge at Adamson Stadium.
