KENT, Ohio (Feb. 21) – In preparation for next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championships, the California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team competed at the Kent State University Tune-Up on Saturday.
Sophomore
Brice Myers (Erie, Pa./McDowell) posted a pair of top-10 finishes for the Vulcans at the Tune-Up. He finished fourth overall with a personal record and PSAC-qualifying mark in the triple jump with a distance of 13.51 meters (44-04.00 feet). Myers also placed seventh overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 second in the finals after clocking a time of 8.38 second in the 53-runner preliminaries.
Graduate student
Chuck Kacsur III (Boiling Springs, Pa./Carlisle), who competed as an unattached runner, finished with a personal-best time in the 800-meter run. He crossed the finish line sixth overall and first among Division II competitors with a time of 1 minute, 53.40 seconds.
Junior sprinter
Terrence Johnson set a personal record with a time of 7.13 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish No. 10 overall and second in his heat. He also finished No. 12 overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.52 seconds to win the second heat.
Freshman
Mike Donovan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) set a personal-best time in the 200 meters in 24.62 seconds to finish third in his heat. Classmate
Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) registered a personal record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:20.27.
In the long jump, junior
Nate Payne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) finished sixth overall with a leap of 6.82 meters (22-04.50 feet).
Freshman
Alex Smith (South Park, Pa./South Park) claimed a personal record in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:01.59.
The Vulcans return to action from Feb. 28-March 1 at the PSAC Championships, which are hosted by East Stroudsburg University at the Koehler Fieldhouse. Cal U have qualified 10 individuals in 17 events for the conference championships.
