Christopher Clark (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) qualified for the U.S.A. Indoor Track & Field Championships and sophomore
Brice Myers (Erie, Pa./McDowell) posted a NCAA qualifying time for the California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team on Saturday at the Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
Clark competed as an individual in the 3,000-meter run, finishing third overall in a field of 166 runners with a time of 7 minutes, 58.83 seconds. The three-time All-American finished only 58 seconds behind the overall finisher to qualify for the national championship race later this month.
Myers posted a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a blistering time of 7.55 seconds, which is the fastest time of any Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) athlete all season. The Erie native placed second in the both the preliminaries and finals in a field that featured 36 total runners. His time in the 55-meter hurdles is just two hundredths of a second behind the indoor school record of 7.53 set by Brian Nicholas in 2004.
Myers was one of seven Vulcans to post a personal record with PSAC qualifying marks over the weekend.
The trio of junior
Dennis Cole (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan), junior
Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) and freshman
Vince Wilson (Bear, Del./Middletown) each set personal bests in the 200 meters. Johnson won his heat and finished 33rd overall in 22.39 seconds, while Cole and Wilson ran times of 23.15 and 23.19 seconds, respectively. Also in the 200 meters, freshman Mike Donavan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) set a personal record with a time of 24.93 seconds.
In the 400 meters, sophomore
Nick Messina (Cheswick, Pa./Springdale) qualified for the PSAC Championships with a time of 51.73 seconds.
Junior
Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) posted the top time by a Cal U runner in both the 200 and 400 meters with season-best times. In the 200 meters, Ehrensberger finished second in his heat and 23rd overall in a field of 175 runners with a time of 22.29 seconds. He also placed 20th overall in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 49.31 seconds.
Junior
Nate Payne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) finished third overall with a personal-best leap of 6.90 meters (22.64 feet) in the long jump to qualify him for the PSAC Championships.
Graduate student
Chuck Kacsur III (Boiling Springs, Pa./Carlisle) posted a personal-best time in the 800-meter run, finishing 12th overall in a field of 158 runners. Kacsur III crossed the finish line in 1:53.67 as an unattached runner. Sophomore
Rickie Watson (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) rounded out the PSAC qualifiers with a time of 1:58.40 in the 800-meter run.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they compete at the Kent State University Tune-Up.
