Vulcans win four events at B-W Meet

BEREA, Ohio (Jan. 23) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team captured four first-place finishes (three individual, one relay) at the eight-team Baldwin-Wallace Mid-January Meet on Friday at the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Recreational Center.

In the 55-meter dash, junior Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) ran the top time in a 20-runner field when he crossed the finish line in 6.51 seconds. The blistering time ranks as the fourth-best by a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) sprinter this season.

Johnson was also a member of the Cal U 4x200-meter relay team that posted a first-place finish with a time of 1 minute, 32.41 seconds. Johnson was joined on the relay team by junior Dennis Cole (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan), freshman Vince Wilson (Bear, Del./Middletown) and junior Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic).

In his first 200-meter dash of the season, Johnson registered a time of 23.16 seconds to win the event and qualify for the PSAC Indoor Championships.

Cole posted an impressive showing in the long jump when he finished second with a leap of 6.49 meters (21.29 feet), which will qualify him for the PSAC Indoor Championships. He finished third overall and second among Division II competitors with a season-best time of 6.64 seconds in the 55 meters.

Ehrensberger claimed a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 50.77 seconds. The junior sprinter also was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second with a time of 3:30.96, only 45 hundredths of a second behind the overall winner. Ehrensberger was the second leg of the relay team that featured Wilson, Nick Messina (Cheswick, Pa./Springdale) and freshman Alex Smith (South Park, Pa./South Park).

Wilson also posted a strong showing in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 51.03 seconds.

Senior Anthony Freer (New Castle, Pa./Union) led the throwers at the B-W Meet with a second-place finish in the weight throw behind a heave of 15.01 meters (49.25 feet).

Cal U is idle for a week before returning to action on Friday, Feb. 6. The team will compete at a pair of invitationals on the opening weekend of February with members competing at both the Slippery Rock Invitational and the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va.
