Jeff Petrucci was the football team's quarterback from 1966 through 1968, and he guided the '68 Vulcans to the PSAC co-championship, which also marked Cal's first appearance in the PSAC "State Game." He led the entire NAIA in total offense in 1967 and 1968 and his 2,944 total offensive yard output in 1968 is still a school record that ranks third in PSAC history.
A two-time NAIA All-American, Petrucci's incredible 517-yard single-game effort (411 passing, 106 rushing) at Edinboro in 1968 is still a PSAC and school record. In the '68 "State Game," Petrucci set PSAC championship game records with 27 completions and 52 attempts while accumulating 358 passing yards. These attempts and completion records remained until the cancellation of the PSAC football "State Game" after 1986. He finished his explosive playing career with a school-record 6,297 total offensive yards, and this record lasted for 16 years.
Petrucci is originally from Charleroi, PA, and Charleroi High School. After his playing days, Petrucci was a highly successful football coach. He was the head coach at Belle Vernon High School for six years before returning to Cal, where he coached the Vulcans from 1981 through 1992 and coached the team to the 1984 PSAC title. Petrucci still lives in Charleroi and is California's Associate Director of University Advancement. Jeff and his wife Melanie have three daughters-Jocelyn, Jaimyn, and Jordan.
