Dr. Jack Taylor was more than just a starter on the 1969-1970 PSAC championship team. He helped the Vulcans go on a 14-point scoring streak in the state championship against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, Cheyney State College. With team play and the shooting ability of Taylor, the championship was captured by a 19-point spread (110-91) as he sunk a total of 20 points. Cal won this memorable game in front of a capacity-filled Hamer Hall, and the 1970 championship was the Vulcan basketball team's first of seven state crowns.
Taylor's effective style of play and determination was a trademark throughout his three-year career at Cal U. While Cal was on the road to becoming state champs, he scored the final two points in a 72-71 victory over Edinboro to give Cal the NAIA District 18 title. Through the use of his 6'5'' frame, he tipped in the winning basket at the buzzer. A model of consistency, Taylor averaged over 12 points a game during his final two seasons.
Originally from Snowden, PA, and a graduate of South Park High School, Taylor earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in elementary guidance from Cal in 1971 and 1975 respectively. Ten years later Taylor completed his doctorate in educational administration and supervision from Bowling Green State University. He began his professional career in 1972 as director of counseling at Cal U and is currently assistant Vice-President for Student Affairs and Coordinator for Undergraduate Advising Initiatives at Bowling Green. Taylor and his wife, Janet, reside in Bowling Green and have three sons.
