It is only natural that George Carlock, a three-sport athlete from Charleroi High School, who received eight varsity letters, received the senior athletic scholarship from the Charleroi Booster Club. After a spectacular high school career in baseball, basketball, and football, Carlock continued his athletic prowess at the university formerly known as California State College.
At Cal, he concentrated his efforts on baseball and football, excelling on both fields of play. Carlock lettered in baseball for four years and was a three-year letterman in football.

He was an NAIA all-district third baseman in 1967 and 1968. In addition, Carlock earned a place on the NAIA All-Tourney Eastern Regional team as well as All-American honorable mention in 1968. That same year, the speedy and talented Carlock led the Vulcans in batting (.425), hits (31), stolen bases (14) and runs scored (17). The following year, Carlock was again one of the leaders as the Vulcans won a school record 23 games and the NAIA District 18 title.

Because of his versatility on the baseball diamond, he was a member of the all-tristate college and NAIA all-district all star teams as an outfielder. Baseball may have been Carlock's sports passion, but the athletic accolades carried to thegridiron as well. From 1968 through 1970, he was selected as an all-conference wide receiver as his "sure" hands became a prime target for Jeff Petrucci's passes. Carlock's agility gained him 1968 recognition as an all-state Associated Press first team all star member as well as All-American honorable mention. A dangerous receiving target and return man, Carlock helped the 1968 Vulcans tie East Stroudsburg for the PSAC championship.

Carlock graduated from Cal U in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in education and continued earning graduate credits at Cal while coaching football at Monessen High School. He was also the district's speech and hearing specialist. His overall record as a junior high school head coach and assistant varsity coach was a highly successful 64-6. Currently, he and his wife, Debra, reside in Bonita Springs, Florida, and have a son and a daughter. Carlock works in sales and management for a corporation in nearby Naples.
