CALIFORNIA (Oct. 13) – Redshirt freshman Cody Schroeder (Avon, Ohio/Avon) passed for three touchdowns and the defense allowed just 116 yards of total offense on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 15 Vulcans registered a 30-0 Homecoming victory against Lock Haven at Adamson Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania football team improves to 6-1 overall and remains tied for first place in the divisional standings with a 4-0 mark. Meanwhile, Lock Haven remains winless this year at 0-7 overall with a 0-4 record in league play.

In his first career start, Schroeder finished with 252 passing yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-29 attempts. The Ohio native, who made his college debut last week, passed for over 200 yards and two scores to help the Vulcans take a 17-0 halftime lead against the Bald Eagles.

Senior Lamont Smith (Penn Hills, Pa./Central Catholic) and sophomore Cody Cook (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) both eclipsed the 100-yard mark, as Cal U rushed for a season-high 221 yards on 51 attempts. Smith led the team with 118 rushing yards on 21 carries and Cook totaled 108 rushing yards on 16 attempts – both career highs.

The Vulcans limited the Bald Eagles to season-low totals in virtually every offensive category, including just three rushing yards on 15 attempts. Lock Haven managed eight first downs and 116 yards of total offense on 47 plays at Adamson Stadium.

Cal U took a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Schroeder connected with redshirt freshman wide receiver Kowan Scott (Easton, Pa./Wilson) for a 68-yard touchdown. Cal U added to the lead on its next possession when Schroeder found junior running back RJ Thomas (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) for a 10-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. The Vulcans took a 17-0 lead at halftime after sophomore kicker Cody Nuzzo (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) made a 23-yard field goal with 1:47 left in the second quarter.

The Vulcans successfully converted an onside kick on the opening kickoff of the second half with the possession leading to a 30-yard field goal by Nuzzo, 20-0. Sophomore Terrell Roberson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) recorded an interception on the ensuing Lock Have drive and Cal U converted the turnover into a 25-yard field goal by Nuzzo with 5:42 left in the third quarter. The Vulcans posted their final score of the game early in the fourth quarter with a six-yard touchdown pass from Schroeder to junior wide receiver Mike Williams (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey), 27-0.

Lock Haven then moved into Cal U territory for only the second time in the game before turning the ball over downs following a fourth-down sack by redshirt freshman defensive back Derrick Fiore (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold). The Vulcans later halted a Bald Eagles' drive with an interception by junior defensive back Sharadi Mudimbi (Tacoma Park, Md./John F. Kennedy).

Junior linebacker Brian Justice (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) led the team with five tackles (three solo) and senior linebacker James Carr (La Habra, Calif./Sonora) made four stops (two solo) and 1.5 TFL in his first career start.

The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they travel to face Gannon in Erie, Pa., at 12 p.m.
