CALIFORNIA (Sept. 4) – Freshman
Aaron Dinzeo (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) earned the individual title in his college debut to help lead the Vulcans to the team title on Saturday morning at the 39th-annual Marty Uher-California University of Pennsylvania Invitational.
As a team, Cal U totaled 15 points after featured the top-five overall finishers. Gannon was the only other team to compete and finished with 42 points. The Vulcans have won their home invitational in two of the last three seasons.
Dinzeo lead nearly wire-to-wire before crossing the finish line with a time of 25 minutes, 51 seconds. He won the 8K race by over 2:32 on Saturday as the Vulcans debuted their new home course.
Junior
Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished second overall with a time of 27:43, while freshman
Savantuay Boyette (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) and senior
Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) finished third and fourth, respectively. Boyette completed the course in 27:54 and Russo was just second behind at 27:59.
Freshman
Cameron Coffey (Brownsville, Pa./Brownsville) rounded the scorers for Cal U with a fifth-place finish at 28:07. Sophomores
Gavin Volosky (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) and
Aaron Roe (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) finished ninth and 14th overall with times of 29:11 and 32:37, respectively.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11, when they travel to State College, Pa., for the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
