CALIFORNIA (June 3) – California University of Pennsylvania junior Laurie Hall (Jackson, Pa./Blue Ridge) was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Hall is the first Vulcan women's runner to earn the academic laurel in recent program history (since 2003).

During the fall, Hall competed in all seven cross country races and helped the Vulcans post their best finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in two decades. She was among the team's top six runners in each race and finished a season-best 14th overall while competing at the Marietta Carl Broughton Invitational. At the Penn State Behrend Invitational, Hall helped Cal U win its first invitational title in over 20 years.

In the spring, the Jackson, Pa., native competed in the 800-meter run during the outdoor track & field season. She crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 2 minutes, 36.09 seconds at the Lock Haven Last Chance Qualifier in May.

Academically, Hall currently holds a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while pursuing a degree in justice studies with a minor in political science. In addition to the academic honor by CoSIDA, she is a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and compiled a perfect 4.00 GPA in both the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.20 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

The district consists of all colleges and universities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and District of Columbia that are not affiliated with NCAA Division II.
