CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (May 20) – California University of Pennsylvania freshman Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School) was recently selected to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-East Region Team.

Lopez was recognized at the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet last Thursday, May 13, in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships. She was the only freshman on the six-player, all-region team that recognizes the top finishers in each regional tournament.

In her first year with the program, she finished the 2010 NCAA Super Regional Championships third overall on the leaderboard with a score of nine-over 225 (73-77-75). Lopez opened the tournament as the individual leader after the first round and finished the three-round event with nine birdies.

A native of Colombia, she led the Vulcans with a scoring average of 78.6 through 27 rounds of golf at 12 events during the 2009-10 season. Lopez also posted an impressive seven top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes.

Last year, former Cal U standout Simone DeSouza was named a NGCA All-American for a second-straight season.
