Jenna Rothermel (Danville, Pa./Danville) moved up nine places on the leaderboard after shooting a five-over 76 (39-37) on Thursday, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's golf team competed at the Longbow Golf Club in the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championships.
The Vulcans carded a 37-over 321 to drop back three places in the team standings and are now ninth with a two-round score of 70-over (317-321). Defending-National Champion Nova Southeastern (Fla.) expanded its lead to nearly 30 strokes after shooting a one-over 285 on Thursday, while Rollins (Fla.) remained in second place with a 44-over 612 (306-306).
Rothermel finished the second round in an eight-way tie for 18th overall with a 13-over 155 (79-76) at the 12-team event. She started the day with a pair of birdies and four pars while opening play on the back nine. Rothermel was then at even-par through her first 13 holes of the round before shooting a five-over on her next four holes and paring the 9th.
Sophomore
Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba) carded a 10-over 81 (39-41) on Thursday to fall back to a tie for 38th overall on the leaderboard at 17-over 159 (78-81). She made the turn at three-over 39 following three-straight pars before closing her round with a seven-over 42 on the back nine. Luke shot two double bogeys and two bogeys on her final six holes.
Freshman
Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School)) stands at 22-over 164 (82-82) through the first two rounds of the National Championships. She was unable to collect a birdie in the second round (41-41) to cancel out her three double bogeys and four bogeys. Classmate
Lorena Aranda (Trujillo, Peru/San Jose Obrero Marianistats) shaved three strokes off her first-round score by carding an 11-over 82 (42-40) on Thursday. After shooting a five-over through her first five holes of the day, she collected a birdie on the par-five 15th before making the turn at six-over 42. On the back nine, she pared the final three holes after double-bogeying the par-four 6th.
Freshman
Karina Palmberg (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Objetivo), who was tied for 18th overall after the first day, was disqualified for the round after a discrepancy on a scorecard.
