CALIFORNIA (March 9) – The Vulcans will be sending six swimmers to the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming National Championships from March 10-13 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
The California University of Pennsylvania swimming team posted one of the best seasons in program history, highlighted by four new school records and a fifth-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships last month.
Sophomore
Melissa Gates (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) will make her second appearance in the NCAA Championships after qualifying for four individual events this season. Last year, she was a member of the Vulcans' All-American 200 freestyle relay team and earned All-America Honorable Mention in three other events.
Freshman standout
Georgia Emert (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) set a pair of school records this season and also qualified for four individual events at the National Championships.
Five-time All-American
Ester Bosch (Barcelona, Spain/Universidad Ramon Illull) will compete as an individual in a pair of events in her third-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships. Bosch and classmate
Rachel Kurta (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) both return to the national stage after they joined Gates as members of the All-American 200 freestyle relay team last season.
