CALIFORNIA (March 9) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's and women's cross country teams were both recently named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II All-Academic Teams.
The women's team boasted a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.53, which is tied for 20th-best throughout all Division II. There were a total of 101 women's teams in the country recognized with the academic honor. Recently, a pair of Cal U runners received individual all-academic honors from the USTFCCCA.
On the men's side, the Vulcans posted a team GPA of 3.27 and were one of 62 teams recognized. Recently, three Cal U runners received individual all-academic laurels from the USTFCCCA.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) featured 11 schools with both men's and women's team's recognized: Cal U, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Gannon, IUP, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.
For a squad to receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have competed and compiled a team score at a NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
