ALLENDALE (Sept. 8) – The Vulcans posted a sixth-place finish at the 16-team Laker Fall Classic, which was hosted by Grand Valley State (Mich.) and concluded with the final round on Tuesday, at the par-72, 5,954-yard Meadows Golf Course.

Junior Jenna Rothermel (Danville, Pa./Danville) led the California University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team with a 14-over 158 after shooting a seven-over 79 in both rounds. She finished the 96-golfer field in a tie ninth place.

Freshman Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School) carded a two-round 21-over 165 (81-84) to finish in a tie for 30th overall, while sophomore Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba) tied for 34th overall with a 22-over 166 (82-84).

Newcomer Kim Thomas (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) compiled a 27-over 171 (84-87) to finish tied for 49th place, while redshirt freshman Lorena Aranda (Trujillo, Peru/San Jose Obrero Marianistats) was one stroke back of Thomas at 28-over 172 (85-87) and tied for 52nd overall to round out the Cal U scores.

Junior Katie Kirk (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) carded a 32-over 176 (84-92) at the two-round event.

Host Grand Valley won the tournament by 12 strokes with a 38-over 614 (306-308) after featuring four top 10 finishes, including medalist Allie Tyler at two-over 146 (72-74).

The Vulcans return to action on Monday, Sept. 14, when they open play in the McNairy Invitational, hosted by Pfeiffer University in New London, N.C.
