BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Sept. 5) – California University of Pennsylvania junior Jenna Rothermel (Danville, Pa./Danville) carded a 12-over 156 (80-76) in the one-day, two-round Ferris State (Mich.) Invitational on Saturday, as the Vulcans finished the 18-team event in a tie for fourth place at 56-over 632 (314-318).

Rothermel carded an eight-over 80 in the first round and was in 21st place before shooting a four-over 76 in the final round to finish in a two-way tie for 13th place overall.

Sophomore Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba), who qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships last year, finished the tournament tied for 19th place at 14-over 158 (78-80), while freshman Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School) was close behind at 16-over 160 (75-85) in her college debut.

Fellow newcomer Kim Thomas (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) rounded out the Cal U scores with a 19-over 163 (84-79) to finish in a tie for 29th overall.

Redshirt freshman Lorena Aranda (Trujillo, Peru/San Jose Obrero Marianistats) and junior Katie Kirk (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also competed at the event. Aranda posted a two-round score of 20-over 164 (81-83) to finish tied for 34th, while Kirk carded a 22-over 166 (83-83) to tie for 41st place.

Grand Valley State won the invitational title with a 21-over 597, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Indianapolis. Senior Lyndsay McBride of Indianapolis claimed medalist honors by two strokes with a one-over 145 (73-72).

The Vulcans continue play in Michigan on Monday, Sept. 7, when they open play at the two-day Grand Valley State Classic in Allendale.
