FINDLAY, Ohio (Sept. 29) – Sophomore
Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba) earned medalist honors for the first time in her college career on Tuesday, as the Vulcans finished third overall at the William Bing-Beall Classic, hosted by the University of Findlay at the par-72, 5,808-yard Findlay Country Club.
Luke finished the two-round event tied with Caitlin Bennett of Grand Valley State (Mich.) with an eight-over 152 (77-75). The sophomore then captured medalist honors after winning the playoff hole against Bennett. Luke, who qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships last year, now has eight career top-10 finishes.
The California University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team finished third at the 10-team event with a 76-over 652 (335-317). Grand Valley State earned the invitational title with a 43-over 619 (314-305), followed by Ashland at 70-over 646 (327-319) and the Vulcans.
Freshman
Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School) carded a 12-over 156 (81-75) to finish in a tie for fifth-place overall. Classmate
Inez del Rosario (Rizal, Philippines/La Salle College Antipolo) finished with a 23-over 167 (87-80), while junior
Jenna Rothermel (Danville, Pa./Danville) shot a 33-over 177 (90-87) at the 36-hole event. Junior
Katie Kirk (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished with a 39-over 183 (93-90).
Freshman
Lorena Aranda (Trujillo, Peru / San Jose Obrero Marianistats) competed as an individual at the event, carding a 17-over 161 (82-79) to tie for 10th overall.
Cal U is idle next week before continuing its fall season at the Robert Morris Classic, beginning Monday, Oct. 12.
