Simone DeSouza (Trujillo, Peru/Fleming) and freshman
Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba) swept the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Golf Awards on Monday in a vote by the league coaches.
DeSouza was selected the PSAC Women's Player of the Year, while Luke received PSAC Women's Freshman of the Year honors.
DeSouza earned medalist honors at three events this season, including a two-over 146 (75-71) performance at PSAC Championships in October. A two-time National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American, she helped lead the Vulcans to five invitational titles highlighted by the program's first-ever title at the PSAC Championships.
DeSouza, a three-time NCAA National Championship qualifier, finished the season with a team-best scoring average of 76.3 after playing 13 events and posted 11 top-20 finishes. She concluded her career with a fourth-place overall finish at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships in May.
Luke posted a strong freshman campaign in the 2008-09 season, finishing third overall at the PSAC Championships and qualifying for the NCAA National Championships. Luke collected nine top-20 finishes this year and posted a scoring average of 80.3 through 13 events. She finished 10th overall at the NCAA Regional Championship, helping Cal U to finish in fourth place at the event.
DeSouza and Luke were the lone PSAC representatives at the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships.
