DANIELS, W.Va. (May 6) – The California University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team concluded its season on Wednesday at the 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament at Glade Springs Resort, finishing in 16th place with a 109-over 973 (330-328-315) at the three-round event.

Freshman Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) led the Vulcans with a 28-over 244 (80-84-80) and finished tied for 64th overall in a field of 108 golfers. Classmate Austin Stoddard (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) finished one shot behind Babashanian at 29-over 245 (91-80-74) and placed in a four-way tie for 71st place.

Sophomore Eric Smith (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) opened the tournament with a seven-over 79 before finishing with a 30-over 246 (79-85-82). Senior Brian Batko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) posted a 36-over 252 (84-79-89), while junior Bryan Bustamante (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) was unable to finish the tournament after missing the second round. He shot a 15-over 87 in the first round before carding 79 on the final day.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania earned the regional team title at 51-over 915 (317-300-298), while Emmanuel Charmat of third-place Concord University (W.Va.) captured medalist honors by one stroke with an eight-over 224 (77-70-77).
