Golf teams earn NCAA regional bids

CALIFORNIA (April 28) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's and women's golf programs were recently selected to compete in their respective NCAA Division II Regional Championships. The men's team will be competing at the Atlantic Regional in West Virginia, while the women's team is hosting the Super Regional One event.

The women's team is playing the nine-team Super Regional One Championship at Cedarbrook Golf Course in nearby Belle Vernon, Pa. The 54-hole event starts on Sunday, May 3. Joining the Vulcans in team competition at the super regional are Grand Valley State (Mich.), Indianapolis, Ferris State (Mich.), Ashland (Ohio), Drury (Mo.), Southern Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Findlay (Ohio). Cal U is the fourth-ranked team in the region.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships. The 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 13-16 in Findlay, Ohio.

The Cal U men's team received a bid to the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament, hosted by Concord University (W.Va.) from May 4-6. The Vulcans are the seventh-ranked team in the region and will be playing at the Glade Springs Resort Golf Club in Beckley, W.Va.

On the men's side, the top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships at Blaine, Wash., from May 19-22.
