Vulcans place eighth at PSAC Championships

EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 31) – Freshman Chris Werner (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) posted an all-conference finish on Saturday as the Vulcans finished in eighth-place at the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, hosted by Edinboro.

The California University of Pennsylvania men's cross country team placed eighth at the league race for the third-straight year with 240 points. Lock Haven earned its fifth conference title in the last seven seasons with 39 points, edging out two-time defending league champion Edinboro (53). The Bald Eagles' Nick Hilton captured the individual title by eight seconds after crossing the finish line in 26 minutes, 17.5 seconds.

Werner, who has posted the team-best time in the last two events, finished 11th overall in a field of 123 runners with a time of 26:53.6. Redshirt freshman Chris Poss (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) placed second on the Vulcans and 53rd overall after finishing in 28:20.1, while junior Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) crossed the finish line in 28:36.9.

Graduate student Eric Reger (Manor, Pa./Hempfield) finished the race in 29:06.7 and sophomore Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) rounded out the Cal U scorers at the event with a time of 30:08.6.

Freshmen Gavin Volosky (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) and Aaron Roe (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) also competed at the PSAC Championships for the Vulcans. Volosky crossed the finish line in 31:58.6 and Roe posted a time of 32:16.7.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when it competes at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Mansfield at Lambs Creek Recreation Area.
